The Southeast Medical Device Association annual conference is right around the corner, May 2 – 4, 2018, this year in Greenville, South Carolina. Write2Market has multiple clients attending and presenting. We also know that many of the attending companies and organizations we have not yet met are in our healthcare practice wheelhouse.

The reasons are many, but here is a quick snapshot of what we’re looking forward to while we are at SEMDA 2018.

The past, present and future of robotics in healthcare

Robotic systems like the da Vinci Surgery System have already entered widespread utility in patient care. But what about hospital automation, advanced home care, and realizing the overall vision of improving patient outcomes in order to help clinicians spend less time on administrative burdens and more time on patient care? We are looking forward to concurrent session #2 on Thursday, May 3 at 2:30 p.m., which will delve into the role of robotics in assisting, augmenting, and enhancing human health.

Generating new marketing and regulatory insights

Write2Market VP of Healthcare Paul Snyder leads the Integrated Marketing Strategies session at SEMDA 2017

W2M’s VP of Healthcare Paul Snyder will moderate a discussion with GCMI Design and Development Director Mike Fisher, Butler Snow Sr. Executive Healthcare Policy and Compliance Advisor Machelle Shields and Molnlycke Healthcare’s Allyson Bower-Willner on the impact of regulatory pathway decisions for marketing teams and budget requirements for medtech innovators. The discussion titled “Medtech Marketing and the Regulatory Minefield” will take place Friday, May 4 from 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 pm during SEMDA 2018 concurrent session #5.

Together they will discuss how to avoid the thousands of seemingly innocuous ways of going off-label or contra-indication that can spell disaster for companies of any size. How do medtech marketers ensure this does not happen to them and accomplish their sales supporting mission effectively? Is there greater commercial value and ROI in investing a little more time in design and development to do a 510k instead of a class 1 project? Add it to your calendar!

Networking with Southeast medtech startups and growth stage companies

We are excited to meet the SEMDA 2018 PitchRounds presenting companies and the other medical device startups and growth stage companies that attend the flagship conference. The SEMDA 2018 PitchRounds winner will be announced during the closing lunch keynote on Friday at 12:15. Whoever it might be, we will watch the winner closely as it charts its path through the commercialization process. Who knows, digital marketing and PR might be a much needed item with which we can help them.

“The SEMDA Medtech Conference has proven effective in generating new clients like Dune Medical for the Write2Market Healthcare Practice,” Snyder says. “It is not only of high value from a practice development perspective, but it also keeps us up to speed on the state of the medtech ecosystem and keeps us connected to the community as a whole in two concentrated, value-based days.”
